Deaconed

A while ago (read: last fall), Hudson was approached with the task of being nominated as a deacon for our church. Hudson, through much prayer and the desire to serve his church even moreso, decided to go through the interview process that our church requires. After several months of not hearing anything, one day we got a letter in the mail letting us know that on March 20th, Hudson was to be ordained as a deacon. Conveniently, Hudson's parents were going to be in town that same weekend so they could attend the ordination service.

At Sagemont, the deacon body does not serve as a "voting" entity or as a entity that carries decisions for the church. Rather, it is a ministry that is mostly focused on the widows that are members of the church, as well as serving the church body through the ordinance of the Lord's Supper, being encouragers to the staff, and to keep the name of Christ as the focus of our church. So, on the 20th of March, we celebrated with Hudson on this (in my opinion, well-deserved) ordination of him as a deacon.

Thus far, we've already attended a Deacon's and Widow's Banquet, met the widow that we are "assigned", determined that our widow is in much better shape than we are in (she just recently biked the MS150), and Hudson will serve for the first time this coming Sunday with the Lord's Supper. We are looking forward to being able to serve the Lord through this calling as well. (PS, Hudson was the youngest deacon ordained by 25+ years....there were 5 that evening ordained, the oldest was 90.)

Here's a few pictures of the service:

Hudson's dad (Dan), a deacon as well, was able to pray over him at the end of the service.

Our pastor, Dr. John Morgan, praying over Hudson during the ordination service.

A family picture before we went to the service..too bad Micayla wasn't interested in a picture.

Awesome! Hudson is a great addition to this body of deacons that properly understand their role. Congratulations to all of you!
